21.02.2005 VICI RACING WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE 2005 IMSA GT3 CUP
Today VICI GROUP is delighted to announce that their racing division will be competing in the just-created United States-based IMSA-organised Porsche GT3 Cup. A first car will join the series at approximately the season’s mid-point. VICI have been prime supporters of the creation of a US version of the hugely popular and long-running European Porsche Carrera Cup. In this series VICI have been running cars successfully, most recently for ‘Team Herberth’, for almost two decades.
The inaugural US series, which will be open to Porsche GT3 Cup and Type 996 models, will start with five races this year, before expanding to ten in 2006. Professionalism is guaranteed as IMSA are the sanctioning body, while prestige is also certain as all five rounds in 2005 will support the important American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Three dates are already confirmed: Road Atlanta (15-17 April), Mid-Ohio (20-22 May) and Portland (29-31 July). The other two dates will be confirmed on 28 February, but it scheduled that one will be held on the East Coast and the other will be on the West Coast.
“I’m absolutely delighted by this news,“ commented VICI GROUP President Ron C. Meixner today. “We have been looking forward to the day the Carrera Cup arrived in the US for many years. We hope to put our twenty years worth of experience gained racing in the European series to good use.
