15.03.2008 TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING - 6 HOUR/half
distance REPORT
|
|
At the half distance
mark in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) 56th
edition of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring the
#5 VICI Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR has moved into
the top three positions and continues to run
reliably and maintain a progressive race pace.
Craig Stanton started
the race at 10:00 AM this morning, six hours ago,
before handing over to Nathan Swartzbaugh. Uwe Alzen
completed the third stint and he brought the car in
for fuel, tires and driver change at 1:21 PM (after
3 hours and 16 minutes of the race). Craig was back
into the #5 car for a second time, and at the 4 hour
mark he was in 5th place in GT2, the car now having
completed 102 laps.
At 2:35 (4 hr 30 min)
Craig, who has over a decade’s experience driving
Porsches, brought the car into the pits for driver
change, fuel and tires. Nathan, the 2006 IMSA GT3
Cup Champion in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, took over
driving duties and a consistent pace saw the young
Californian holding 5th in class at the 5 hour mark,
and with 127 laps now having been run.
At 4:00 PM the 12 hour
endurance race reached the half distance mark, and
with the GT2 class leaders tripping over each other,
the order was shaking up. With the #5 VICI Racing
Porsche running smoothly and consistently to its
race plan, the team was been able to take advantage
of the mistakes by the leaders to move up to third
position.

At 6 hours, and with 147 laps having been
completed by the #5 car, Nathan is running in a
very impressive third position. |

At 6 hours, and
with 147 laps having been completed by the #5
car, Nathan is running in a very impressive
third position.
With this being the
first event of a brand new and ambitious tire
development program being run by VICI Racing in
conjunction with Kumho Tire in the ALMS, the
race performance so far is well above the team’s
expectations, and it builds on the important and
steady progress that has been made all week
here.
Uwe Alzen says:
“The race is going to plan; I can maintain a
good speed out on the track, which is getting
quite dirty now. The team is working well
together, and very professionally, and the pit
stops are excellent. I think we are in a good
position to maintain a steady pace.”
Roland Wall,
Technical Director & Chief Engineer, says: “I
have nothing really to report really over the
last three hours. The car is going well, the
2008 specification RSR is a delight to work
with, Porsche continue to keep moving the bar
upwards, and with the strong technical input
they always provide, I couldn’t ask for better
support. As we get to know the car better we can
unlock more and more potential. The Kumho tires
are working well, we’re learning as we go along,
and the drivers are all now used to the new RSR
and able to run at a consistent pace.”
