VICI SPECIAL VEHICLE PROJECTS (SVP) have a wealth of experience in converting racing cars to homologated road versions, fusing the two technological approaches to the optimum while at the same time achieving mandatory legislative standards.
The most notable previous programme involved the Group C Porsche 962. VICI GROUP have been able to successfully exploit the synergies of track and road cars in many different projects, creating ‘special edition' road cars that reflect a particular race programme's integrity and technology.
The ending of the Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy one-make series in 2003 left thirty Diablo GTR track car's in the hands of private owners who had nowhere to race them.
VICI SVP were approached by a number of customers with the idea of road homologating their cars and a conversion programme was established. One of VICI SVP's key pointers was not to lose the ‘exclusivity' and history of these racing cars, so that their racing past would in effect be embedded into the resulting car, whilst their value would be enhanced simultaneously.
Practical aspects of the conversion included a tailor-made new engine management system, as well as the installation of a passenger seat. Race harnesses were fitted rather than a conventional ‘seat belt restraint', a point that illustrates efforts made not to lose the Diablo GTR's racing character.
